We are proud that Elmfield School for Deaf Children caters for children from Nursery age right through to Year 11. This ensures children receive specialist deaf education for fourteen years within one school. Many of our children benefit from developing and sustaining their friendships throughout this time and building strong, long-lasting professional relationships with the school staff.
Although our primary and secondary schools are on separate sites, we work very closely together to ensure that children are confident about moving up to secondary school. During Year 6 we provide many opportunities for our children to experience life at Elmfield Secondary School through a carefully planned programme of transition. This includes several visits to the school to meet the staff and become familiar with the setting, take part in lessons and assemblies, also, to work with our secondary students on projects for local community events.
All children at primary take part in weekly inclusive lessons with our neighbouring mainstream primary school. This prepares them well for moving to our secondary school, as it shares the same site with Fairfield High School, a mainstream secondary school. Once our children move to Elmfield Secondary School they have access to a wider range of inclusive lessons and other inclusive opportunities provided jointly by Elmfield and Fairfield.
