Elmfield School

Secondary

New Secondary building from April 2027

Elmfield School for Deaf Children’s Secondary school offers a broad and balance secondary curriculum.  We deliver this through a highly skilled staff team of Teachers of the Deaf, Communication Support Workers and Learning Support Assistants.

We strive to offer learning that is accessible to all deaf students, whatever their preferred means of communication. This is part of our sign bilingual philosophy. All students learn and develop their skills in British Sign Language to enable communication amongst peers and with staff. We have many positive deaf role models across our staffing team.

Whilst currently based at our Sheridan Road site, we are all excited about our new school building being ready for Spring 2027.  This building will be specially designed to provide the best learning environment for deaf students and offer the specialist rooms required for an inspiring secondary education.

At Key Stage 3 students study: English, maths, science, ICT, humanities (geography, history and religious education), PSHE (Personal, social and health education), Deaf studies, BSL, Creative arts rotation (art, DT, cooking), Expressive arts rotation (dance, music, drama) and PE.
